Arson threat against "Academia Semillas del Pueblo"
An innovative Los Angeles public school that serves students of Mexican descent has been threaten with arson. The threat to burn down the Los Angeles Unified School District's K-8th magnet school, located in the predominate Mexican community of El Sereno, was received by La Voz de Aztlan 3 days after our news and information service published an editorial titled, "KABC Radio Attacks on the Mexican Community Must Cease" on June 2, 2006.
Academia Semillas del Pueblo is a unique school that is chartered by the LAUSD and teaches the Nahuatl language, and focuses on Indigenous culture, history and heritage. The school came under attack by racists after the Walt Disney radio station KABC in Los Angeles targeted it's founder and principal Marcos Aguilar about 8 days ago. Since then, Mr. Aguilar has received death threats and the entire educational program has been seriously disrupted. As a consequence of the irresponsible actions by the extremely bigoted Disney radio station, a large group of the children's parents picketed the headquarters of KABC on Monday. KABC has ugly precedents concerning anti-Mexican bigotry.
The arson threat against the school is extremely vulgar and vicious. It includes the usual anti-Mexican epithets and some are directed against the children.
