A Critique of:

"We Have Met the Monster, and It Is Us"

(An article that was written by Fr. Greg Boyle, S.J.)

Fr. Gregory Boyle, S.J.Last year, during the height of the LAPD Rampart corruption scandal, Jesuit Priest Gregory Boyle wrote an article for the Los Angeles Times titled, "We Have Met the Monster, and It Is Us". The article was very critical of Chicana Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina because of comments she made during a press interview concerning Chicano youths who were being arrested, beaten up and framed by the LAPD. One of her comments was, "after all, they aren't exactly the pillars of the community." Fr. Gregory Boyle went on to give a story about two nurses who were transporting a dead Chicano "Gang Banger" full of tatoos to the organ harvesting ward of the local hospital. One white nurse looks at the deceased "Vato" and turns to the other and says "Who would want this monster's heart?"

The article made some waves in Los Angeles because the Catholic Church rarely speaks out against LAPD police brutality cases involving Chicano youths. La Voz de Aztlan was very happy to hear that the Catholic Church was finally showing some courage and standing up for our oppressed barrios and for justice. We went out of our way to link Fr. Boyle's article in La Voz de Aztlan but then two Catholic Church related "bombshells" exploded in the Los Angeles area. The first was involving Cardinal Roger Mahoney and numerous corrupt Chicano elected officials. The Los Angeles Times wrote about Cardinal Mahoney lobbying for the notorious crack cocaine dealer Carlos Vignali for a pardon with President Clinton. Many prominent Chicano politicians were implicated as well. Congressman Xavier Becerra took $25,000 dollars and was on the phone with Bill Clinton on the day he issued a pardon to release Vignali from prison. Cardinal Mahoney was then collecting money to build his enormous cathedral in downtown Los Angeles and it is believed that he may have received money from Horacio Vignali as well. The Archdioecese has been very quiet about the whole matter. La Voz de Aztlan published a political cartoon by Sergio Hernandez on the incident that may have angered the Church because we received two e-mails from Jesuit Priest Gregory Boyle requesting that we remove his article.

Watch them dance and sing to the praises of Viganali

The second bombshell exploded just two weeks ago when the local media revealed that Cardinal Mahoney had approved the payout of $5.2 million to settle a homosexual molestation case involving one of his monsignors. In addition, the Archdioceses was forced to sign a code of conduct that will be enforced by a judge and that is designed to protect children from sexual predatory priests. The case involving Monsignor Michael Harris has opened a host of issues concerning the safety of young boys in Catholic Schools and of those who volunteer as altar boys in Catholic Churches. There has been an epidemic of molestations of young boys by pedophilic homosexual priests nationwide and the Catholic Church has had to pay out billions of dollars to settle the cases. One gruesome case involved the sadomizing of a young altar boy by a priest in church after mass. Reliable sources estimate that approximately 75% of all Catholic priests are homosexuals. It is a profession perfect for homosexuals who like to prey on little boys. They are not expected to marry and live with other men under the protection of the church. They also have the full trust of unsuspecting parents. The word has gotten out and the seminaries are now attracting predominantly gay men.

Gay Monsignor Michael HarrisLa Voz de Aztlan knows personally of a now 26 year old man who is in and out of psychiatric hospitals because he was molested as a young altar boy by a Catholic priest in the Los Angeles area. The mother of the young man is unable to talk about the incident because she is a devout Catholic and the entire family feels a lot of shame. In most cases the young victims come from Mexican immigrant homes who rarely complain because of fear of the authorities. Another case involves a perverted priest who talked dirty to a young boy during confessionals. The priest would ask the little boy "how big is you peewee?" and "can I kiss your little winnie?". The witness, now a grown man, remembers strange noises and growns from behind the screen where the priest was sitting as if he was masturbating and having an orgasm. There are now numerous documented cases of homosexual pedophilic molestations by Catholic priests, yet the Vatican refuses to do anything about it and is simply turning its head the other way.

Also, there are now medical reports that AIDS is rampant among Catholic priests. Many have already died of the disease. In many of the cases, the AIDS infected priests are in turn infecting their young victims. One of the cases involved Monsignor Michael Harris. The monsignor had sex with one of his students for a period of two years (1977-1979) while he was Principal of Mater Dei Catholic High School. Vincent Colice, the victim, has since died of AIDS.

We are now sincerely wondering what Fr. Gregory Boyle really meant by "We Have Met the Monster, and It Is Us". Why has Fr. Gregory Boyle requested that La Voz de Aztlan remove his article from our website? Has he been pressured by his homosexual brethern in the priesthood because of our editorials against the homosexual lifestyle? Since we have been covering the Zionism equals racism issue, perhaps the attempt by Loyola Law School to cancel the recent Palestinian Solidarity Forum may provide a clue!

Or perhaps, "We Have Met the Monster, and It Is Us", was simply a confession to the public at large? La Voz de Aztlan does not know who priests confess to. Do they confess to another priest or to a bishop or maybe to a cardinal or do they do it directly to God like we all should? If it is not a confession and merely a judgement, then La Voz de Aztlan would like to remind this holy man of the cloth of the following passage in the Bible that says, "why do you look at the splinter in your brother's eye, when you have a plank in yours!"
