Ohio Fire that Killed 10 Mexican Immigrants Ruled Arson
The fire was set by a killer or killers around 2:30 AM in a manner that impeded the immigrants from escaping and forcing some to jump from third floor windows. There is evidence that the stairwells were doused with gasoline resulting in a near explosive conflagration of the only escape routes.
In addition, the Columbus Fire Chief stated that the nearest street fire hydrant to the apartment building had been broken on purpose. There were visible tire skid marks indicating that a vehicle was utilized to disable the hydrant. The apartments, named Lincoln Park West Apartments, were the only ones that rented to Mexican workers in Columbus.
The fire wiped out an entire family. Perishing in the flames were Ismael Noriega, 36, his wife Lidia Mejia, and the couple's three sons, 6-year-old Jose Guadalupe, 2-year-old Jesus Antonio and 18-month-old Ismael.
There will be an official press conference this evening.
