Welcome to the premiere issue of La Voz de Aztlan. It has been a little more that one millennium since our indigenous ancestors left Aztlan in the southwest United States for Tenochtitlan and about half a millennium since La Raza was given birth in the tumultuous fusion of two cultures. La Raza has since; won independence from Spain in 1810, lost Aztlan in 1848 and went through armed revolution from 1910 to 1940. We are now in the first year of a new millennium and many of us have returned to Aztlan. What new chapters of history will we write?

La Voz de Aztlan hopes to chronicle our contemporary 21st century history through the research, analysis and publication of what is being said about us in the media. The established media in the United States has failed, either through design or neglect, to articulate the truth behind the political, economic, social and educational issues affecting our community. Often the news, editorials and commentary is bias against La Raza and is slanted in order to perpetuate the negative myths that have proven to be detrimental and against the best interests of our people.

La Voz de Aztlan will also endeavor to give voice to La Raza in the United States through the publication of our own unbias news reports and editorials. This year we will provide special coverage of the Democratic National Convention 2000 in Los Angeles scheduled for August and where large scale demonstrations a la "Battle in Seattle" are planned. In addition, new battle lines have been drawn in California where yet two more anti-Mexican propositions will appear on the March 7th ballot. We will provide extensive critical analyses of these issues and of the election where La Raza may be able to elect the first Chicano mayor of Los Angeles. When you visit our site, make sure to read the Cuacuahtzin Column. This issue column's title is:
LOS(T) ANGELES: The Shameful LAPD and LAUSD Corruption Scandals.

We invite you to bookmark this web site and return from time to time for information on the critical issues that will determine the future of our families and friends. We also encourage you to contribute your ideas and thoughts for publication. Our "Letters to the Editor" is and excellent way to make your views known to our readership. Also, if you are a student or academic, please submit your scholarly articles for our review and publication.

Sinceramente,
