La Voz de Aztlan will be covering the Democratic National Convention 2000 in Los Angeles, California. Mexican-Americans and other Latinos overwhelmingly register to vote as democrats but the party has for too long taken us for granted. This year large scale demonstrations are planned not only by La Raza but also by a broad coalition of organizations who are dissatisfied with both the Republican and Democratic Parties. Many of these groups will be coming to Los Angeles after a successful shutdown of the World Trade Organization Conference in Seattle, Washington.La Voz de Aztlan will cover the issues inside and the demonstrations outside the Staples Center where the convention will take place. We will also serve as a center of information concerning hotels, transportation, places to visit and information on scheduled events for both the delegates and the activists.
The 2000 Democratic National Convention will take place August 14-17, 2000 in Los Angeles. The 2000 Democratic National Convention is the culmination of the Presidential nominating process for the Democratic Party. Voters will select delegates to the Convention in state primaries and caucuses beginning early in 2000. Those delegates will come together in Los Angeles, with thousands of other Democratic activists, guests and members of the media, to formally nominate the Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates.
The 2000 Democratic National Convention will bring together 4,366 delegates and 610 alternates representing each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Virgin Islands and Democrats Abroad.
