Karina Garcia Speaks
The following recorded speech is by the extraordinary and rising young leader of the immigrant rights movement Karina Garcia. Karina is the Political Chair of the Chicano Caucus at Columbia University in New York City. The speech was delivered at the Party for Socialism and Liberation conference in Los Angeles on November 11, 2006.
On October 11, 2006, Karina participated in a debate on "Democracy Now" against the founder of the Minutemen vigilantes James Gilchrist. After the first question, Gilchrist suddenly stood up, took off his microphone and fled the debate. The pitiful and shameful performance by Gilchrist gave Karina Garcia the opportunity for a one punch knockout during her final closing statement. Karina's courageous stand against the vigilante has earned her the utmost respect from our community.
