* Whereas, the Democratic Party, President Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore actively support the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which seeks to exploit the working class and the national resources of Ixachitlan (Alaska to Tierra del Fuego) for the profit of corporations.

* Whereas, the United States military under the Democratic Party*s control, President Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore gave trillions of dollars in military aid to repressive governments seeking to exploit third world peoples. (ex: The School of the Americas)

* Whereas, the Democratic Party, President Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore implemented low-intensity war against immigrants through the millitarization of the United States-Mexican border, resulting in the 0numerous deaths of our gente.

* Whereas, the Democratic Party, President Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore have implemented "Welfare Reform" which has increased abject poverty of communities of color, single parent households, the disabled, and children.

* Whereas, the state of California*s Democratic Party, Governor Gray Davis, and other politicians have prioritized the construction of prisons over schools.

* Whereas, the state of California*s Democratic Party, Governor Gray Davis, and other politicians have contributed to the criminalization of people of color by actively supporting so-called "tough on crime" initiatives such as Proposition 184 (the 3 strikes law) and Proposition 21 (the Juvenile Justice Initiative).

* Whereas, the state of California, the Democratic Party, Governor Gray Davis, and other politicians have ridden off the coattails of Chicano/a voters while failing to remain accountable to our community.

* Whereas, in the state of California, the Democratic Party, Governor Gray Davis and other politicians especially Hispanic politicians have been visibly and vocally absent in supporting Affirmative Action, which has resulted in drastic decline of people of color in higher education.

* Whereas the state of California*s Democratic Party, Governor Gray Davis, and other politicians especially Hispanic politicians have remained silent about police brutality, specifically the LAPD Rampart scandal (racial profiling).

* Whereas, the Democratic Party neglected to address and take an active role in campesino*s basic rights and enforcing environmental health protection.

* Therefore, let it be resolved that statewide MEChA will educated its constituency about the oppressive and racist policies of the Democratic and Republican parties.

* Therefore, let it be further resolved that statewide MEChA will voice its opposition to the National Democratic Convention on August 14-17, 2000 in Los Angeles, CalifAztlan by participating in efforts of mass protests in conjunction with other student and community organizations.

Resolution passed, with 18 yes*s, 8 no*s, and 4 abstained votes from the MEChAs (with voting rights) therein present on April 9, 2000.
