Mexican president condemns fatal shooting of immigrant by the US Border Patrol

Mexican President Felipe Calderon is condemning the shooting death of a Mexican immigrant in Arizona by an agent with the US Border Patrol.

22-year-old Francisco Javier Dominguez-Rivera of Puebla, Mexico was killed Friday by an unidentified agent.

The Border Patrol in Tucson has said little about the incident.

During a news conference at his presidential residence in Mexico City, Calderon expressed his "most energetic protest" against the shooting, and said that the Mexican government has demanded a full investigation.

The incident occurred just after three o-clock on Friday, when a male agent responded to a call by border vigilantes about a group of seven Mexicans who were crossing the desert.

The agent took six of the seven migrants into custody without incident but shot Dominguez-Rivera to death.

There has been a series of murders and shootings of defenseless Mexican migrants recently. These incidents are mostly due to the anti-immigrant hysteria being fueled by bigots. One case resulted in the conviction of two Border Patrol Agents named Ignacio Ramos and Juan Compean for shooting a Mexican migrant in the back. The two convicted agents are scheduled to be imprisoned on Wednesday.
