Minutemen go into hiding

Minutemen Director of Field Operations also stabbed a Mexican to death in 1997.
Soon after the arrest of three Minutemen in Arizona for the home invasion and murder of a Mexican family, the Minutemen are nowhere to be seen along the US/Mexico border or at hardware stores where they would routinely harass Mexican day laborers. It appears that they are now very fearful of retaliation for their deed and have gone into hiding.

Scott Anderson of the Arizona Minuteman Civil Defense Corps was quoted as saying to a local newspaper that they are now stopping all their operations along the Arizona/Mexico border. He said that the murder of 8-year-old Brisenia Flores and of her father Raul Flores and the shooting of her mother in their home in Arivaca, Arizona by one of their own was sure to have grave repercussions against them.

The Minutemen were already having major problems before this horrible incident. Two of their national leaders, Jim Gilchrist and Chris Simcox were often given very unfriendly welcomes at colleges where they were speakers. Jim Gilchrist had to be escorted off a stage at Columbia University for his own safety a few years ago and more recently he wore a "bullet proof vest" when he spoke at Long Beach State University. It is doubtful that either of these two, or any other Minutemen, will have the courage to go out in public where Latinos predominate.
