Freedom Flotilla's MV Rachel Corrie
determined to reach Gaza
With great courage and after experiencing engine problems early on in its voyage to bring much needed supplies to Gaza, the MV Rachel Corrie continues to sail towards its destination despite the barbaric attack on her sister ships by murderous Israeli commandos. The brutal attack left at least 19 humanitarian aid volunteers dead and over 40 wounded. Approximately 720 civilian volunteers were taken prisoners by the Zionist regime in international waters on the night of May 31st.
The MV Rachel Corrie The MV Rachel Corrie, which was launched from Ireland, has issued the following message to the world:
"The Malaysian and Irish peace and humanitarian activists aboard share their deepest grief and sense of lost with the loved ones of those killed and injured in the illegal action undertaken by Israel on Monday 31st May 2010 in the international waters of the Mediterranean. In the names of our friends, we are more determined than ever to continue into Gaza with our humanitarian cargo and our support for the blockaded and suffering people of Gaza. We expect Israel to respond to the international condemnation of its violence by not impeding by any means the safe passage of the Rachel Corrie. We appeal to the international community and United Nations to continue to demand Israel our safe passage into Gaza."
All of the passengers on the MV Rachel Corrie are aware of the fate of the others on the Freedom Flotilla. They took a vote on whether to continue. They all voted to defy the Zionists and to break the siege on Gaza.
The Rachel Corrie is carrying equipment for schools and hospitals, including items such as printers and printer paper as well as wheelchairs and crutches. These items have been in very short supply since the Zionist regime's imposed blockade on Gaza that began in 2007.
The ship was named after the 23-year-old American peace activist from Olympia, Washington, who was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer in 2003. Rachel Corrie was killed while undertaking nonviolent direct action to prevent Israeli bulldozers from demolishing the home of a Palestinian family.
Ireland's Prime Minister Brian Cowen has made it known to the Israelis that the ship is Irish owned. He informed the Irish parliament in Dublin that , "The government has formally requested the Israeli government to allow the Irish-owned ship MV Rachel Corrie to be allowed to complete its journey unimpeded and discharge its humanitarian cargo in Gaza." Zionist Israel has said, however, that it is prepared to block the ship.
The MV Rachel Corrie is expected to arrive off the coast of Gaza within the next 3 to 5 days.
