Open Letter to the Committee on Chicano RightsLa Voz de Aztlan

President
Committee on Chicano Rights
710 East Third Street
National City, CA 91950Estimado Sr. Herman Baca:
We are in receipt of your "press release" concerning the appointment as police chief of National City, California of the killer of Luis "Tato" Rivera in 1975. If I am not mistaken, this is the case in which the appointed police chief, Craig Short, cowardly shot the 20 year old Mexican-American youth in the back with a 357 magnum.
Worst of all, you mentioned that the "hispanic" mayor and two "hispanic" councilmen of National City, a city that has a 65% Mexican-American population, approved the appointment. I believe this points to the principal problem our community faces today. We are no longer being provided representation in government by elected officials that should be providing our community a voice. This problem is now endemic in Alta California all the way from the Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante to the local city councilmen and school board members. These elected representatives are not representing us but have become mere lackeys of the two party dictatorship, mostly of the corrupt Democratic Party. They have sold out the "real" interests of the Mexican-American community and their entire focus is to enrich themselves and their cronies.
If we are to make real progress in the state, we are going to have to fix this problem. We must first realize that the political system is rigged against us. These hispanic lackeys are not actually being elected by us but by vast amounts of money, money that does not come from us. During elections we always have to vote for the lesser of two evils. An example was the election of Congresswoman Linda Sanchez here locally. She is the sister of Congresswoman Loretta "Playgirl" Sanchez of Orange County. The corrupt Democratic Party "pushed" Linda Sanchez as a candidate on us. We had no choice and either had to vote for her, the Republican candidate or not vote at all. The criteria of the Democratic Party in selecting candidates for us is that they must first be subservient to them . . . not us.
Another example is that of Congressman Xavier Becerra of East Los Angeles. For many years, we had asked him to look into the cruel solitary confinement of federal political prisoner Ramsey Muniz. Ramsey Muniz was twice candidate for governor of Texas under La Raza Unida Party. His threat to the Texas political system fueled a massive frame-up against him that ended in his imprisonment for life without the possibility of parole. Just prior to the end of President Clinton's Administration, Clinton was taking applications for pardons. The Committee to Free Ramsey Muniz sent in an application and requested assistance from Congressman Xavier Becerra. Congressman Becerra totally ignored the request and never responded. Later we found out that Congressman Becerra was shamefully implicated in the Clinton "Pardongate Scandal". He had spent vast amounts of his time lobbying for the successful release of the notorious crack cocaine dealer Carlos Vignali. His motive . . . large sums of money he received from the father of Carlos, Horacio Vignali. Many other elected hispanic lackeys were implicated in the Vignali case, including the protector of pedophile priests, Cardinal Roger Mahoney.
I commend you for being outspoken in defense of our community. We have less and less courageous leaders. Many are afraid to speak out for fear of losing the little crumbs the system throws at them. The first step is perhaps being a little more militant with the elected lackeys that suppose to represent us. Friendly confrontations at their field offices with groups of Mexican-Americans would be helpful. Also, taking every opportunity to embarrass them during their speeches at public forums would go a long way in sending them a strong message.
Another thing we must do is to educate our community on how the political system actually works. The mainstream media does not cover the real critical issues facing our community. Many do not know about the economic, political and social interests that actually control the two ruling parties, the Republican and the Democratic. For example, take the Democratic Party. There are many naive Mexican-Americans that think it is good that the hispanic Art Torres is the the party's state chairman. They do not realize that Art Torres was placed there, not by us but by the Jewish/Gay Alliance. He is there not to principally serve our interests but those of the gay community. Art Torres is an out of the closet homosexual. The vast majority of the Mexican-American community would not support the Democratic Party if they knew the truth.
Things are worst on the national level. We have no real national leadership. Recently, here in Los Angeles, the Democratic Party resurrected the convicted criminal Henry Cisneros of Texas, pardoned during the Clinton "Pardongate Scandal", not to voice any defense of our community but to come out in defense of the crooked Governor of California Gray Davis who is about to be recalled by the electorate. He nor anyone else has spoken out on the police brutality issue nor on the growing number of hate crimes against our community. We did not hear one voice from any of our elected leaders when Councilman Richard Nichols of Newport Beach, California was quoted recently in the Los Angeles Times as saying that "Mexicans" are not welcomed at the public Corona del Mar State Beach nor has any national hispanic leader voiced contempt at the July 5 firebombing of a home of a Mexican family in Farmingville, New York. This is the same community where two racist bigots lured two Mexican laborers, on the pretext of giving them work, and beat them savagely in a remote location.
We urge you to take action against the elected hispanic traitors in National City. The sellouts Mayor Nick Inzunza and City Council members Francisco Parra, and Louie Natividad need to be taught a lesson. Perhaps, we could learn something through how the Palestinians handle their collaborators. Please, keep us informed so that in turn La Voz de Aztlan can inform our community.
Hasta La Victoria Siempre,
