ALTA CALIFORNIA: Governor Davis appoints Richard Blum instead of Dr. Manuela Sosa as U.C. Regent
There is still hope for the appointment of a Latino Chancellor for U.C. Riverside

La Voz de AztlanLos Angeles, Alta California - 3/12/2002 - (ACN) Mexican-Americans and other Latinos in Alta California are today very disappointed at Governor Davis for having appointed the husband of U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein as U.C. Regent instead of Dr. Manuela Sosa. The announcement from the governor's office was released just one day before demonstrations were to take place at the U.C. Board of Regents meeting in San Francisco. A large contingent of students and community leaders from Riverside and San Bernardino counties boarded a "Freedom Ride" bus this evening and are now on their way to San Francisco. They will be joined by UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley students at the meeting that starts at 8:30 A.M. tomorrow.
The purpose of the action is to make it loud and clear to the governor, the president of the university and to the board that the Mexican-American community in Alta California is sick and tired of being pushed aside and that we will no longer tolerate educational inequality in the state. The appointment of Jewish mogul Richard Blum over Dr. Manuela Sosa is just another example of how Jews dominate not only the media, politics and finance but also academia. This power imbalance must not continue or we might be headed for a situation similar to Palestine. We should not replace the outgoing UC Riverside Chancellor who is Jewish with another Jew. Enough is enough. Ya Basta!
Richard C. Blum and his wife, U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein, work as a team and have made millions through varied schemes that include some questionable deals with Red China. Richard Blum gave former president Bill Clinton a lot of money in return for very lucrative business favors through the U.S. government sponsored Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). Richard Blum was also one of the persons that Bill Clinton allowed to sleep in the Lincoln Room of the White House. Governor Davis appointed this super rich Jewish Mogul because he wants his money when he runs for re-election in a few months against Bill Simon. This is the nature of American dirty politics and why honest ethnic minorities make no progress.
The principal strength of Mexican-Americans, presently, is the number of votes that can be delivered as a block. We should keep a very close watch on Governor Davis to see what he and UC President Richard Atkinson decide concerning the appointment of the next Chancellor of UC Riverside and then vote accordingly in the next governor's election.
La Voz de Aztlan wishes the best to those who will protest at the U.C. Board of Regents meeting tomorrow under the leadership of Dr. Armando Navarro, Coordinator of the National Alliance for Human Rights. Dr. Navarro has been the driving force behind the statewide mobilization to appoint a Latino as Chancellor of UC Riverside. In understanding the reasons for the statewide mobilization, Dr. Navarro stated "Latinos in general and Chicanos in particular are at a critical juncture. If we fail, the nativist reactionary forces will have won a major battle in their struggle to relegate us to what is tantamount to a South African defacto apartheid status vis-a-vis higher education in California."
