US Department of Justice refutes vigilante lies concerning imprisoned border patrol agents

There are many lies and myths that have been disseminated by anti-Mexican border vigilante groups, anti-immigrant xenophobes, white supremacists and even some congressmen and the mainstream right wing media concerning the shooting of a Mexican national in the back by former US Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. Bigots through out the USA have turned these two rogue agents into their heroes and have used the case for vile anti-Mexican propaganda.

The United States Department of Justice issued a "Press Release" yesterday that debunks, point by point, many of the lies that are published on racist websites, newspapers, and broadcasted over the airwaves. Among many of the lies debunked are:

1) The agents were not sure of what they saw because it happened in the middle of the night. THE TRUTH - The events of Feb. 17, 2005, occurred at approximately 1:00 P.M

2) Agent Ramos was "Border Patrol Agent of the Year". THE TRUTH - Agent Ramos has never received any formal recognition or award for being the Border Patrol Agent of the Year. In fact, he has been arrested on at least two occasions for domestic abuse and was formally disciplined for conduct unbecoming a federal officer.
