Border vigilantes suspected in the killing of three undocumented immigrants

At least 4 gunmen in ski masks and with assault rifles attacked a group of 10 undocumented Latino immigrants near Tucson, Arizona , killing three. Among the dead is a 15 year old girl from Mexico. Another 15 year old girl escaped with injuries. The attack is similar to other ambushes of undocumented immigrants from Mexico and Latin America by racist border vigilantes that have occurred in the violent state of Arizona.

The attack occurred yesterday when a vehicle with the four gunmen started shooting at a pickup truck carrying the immigrants and forced it off a dirt road about 20 miles northwest of Tucson. The gunmen shot 5 of the immigrants killing three and critically injuring two. It is presently unknown what happened to the other 5. Most likely they escaped into the surrounding desert.

As in other similar incidents, both local authorities and the Mexican government seem to be issuing misinformation on the attack. US law enforcement agencies investigating the case and the Mexican government have long feared an outbreak of a civil war in southern Arizona between Latinos and racist bigots that operate in the region if the truth is known about who is behind these vicious attacks. They usually blame "bandidos" and the cases are forgotten.

Arizona is still quite uncivilized and the home of a significant number of vicious armed racists and white supremacists. A few days ago Arizona State Representative Kyrsten Sinema proposed a law that would make it a felony to undertake armed vigilante operations along the US/Mexico border and this resulted in her receiving a large number of death threats and e-mails with vulgar sexually oriented epithets. Arizona is now a haven for anti-Mexican groups and a possible flash point for a serious border war between Mexicans and vioent xenophobes.
